But my external hard drive is brand new, and I looked at the desktop's motherboard and it should work with my new hard drive. I went to check the meaning of this error message, it may be caused by incompatible motherboard or damaged device. When I try to find the hard drive from Device Manager, I get an error message: Device not migrated due to partial or ambiguous match. "When I installed a new external hard drive for my desktop, I couldn't find it from File Explorer. HiHave an error with my external hard drive, can anyone help me? Replug it and the partition including data should be back. So for now, I'm retrieving the data using a recovery software as back-up.Īny ideas why it's RAW and cant be reformatted/CHKDSK? I cant reformat or perform CHKDSK(it stopped at step 2 saying "error has occurred"). However, it's shown as RAW and not directly accessible. I finally can see my HDD right in the My Computer after changing the enclosure. If possible try checking with a friend computer, if he or she could put your HDD inside their computer to make sure its not HDD related, but the symptoms really look like the enclousure controller is bad. The only difference is that it was showing in the disk manager, with a drive letter, but Windows could not access it before checking for errors. I had an external HDD that its USB cable was faulty and I had to use checkdisk to recover it (it was show as RAW, but it was NTFS) Or even removing the HDD from the enclousure and putting it on a different one ? Did you try using a different cable ? Or even a different USB port ?
